2024 Polls: Only God Can Stop Me- Adwoa Safo Declares, seeks re-election

Sarah Adwoa Safo, a member of parliament representing the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, has announced her desire to run for reelection in the general elections of 2024.
Only God, according to her, will prevent her from trying to keep the seat for the ruling party.
On June 14, she remarked, “But I know He has opened the way,” to a group of party members. Through you, He has paved a new path.
“So all I’m saying is that I’ll run for office again if God forbid the party leadership opens nominations for parliamentary primaries, especially since you all support me. No baga waya,” she uttered in Twi to her audience’s applause.

The former Deputy Majority Leader’s vote margin dwindled in the last elections after a fierce contest from Faustina Elikplim Akurugu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). From 67.99 percent in 2016, she had 58.35 percent in 2020.
Elikplim Akurugu has been re-elected for the 2024 elections, the first time the opposition party will be retaining a candidate in the constituency.
Therefore, pundits are predicting a tough race for the incumbent MP if she returns.
Her struggles have been compounded by a fallout with leadership of her party in Parliament.
Adwoa Safo was submitted to the Privileges Committee for removal from the House after being absent from Parliament for more than a year.
The Speaker, Alban SK Bagbin, delayed making a judgment despite the Committee’s majority recommendation that her seat be declared vacant.
Since then, Adwoa Safo has returned to the House.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Mike Oquaye Jr., who gave her a run for her money in the last primaries, is anticipated to put up a hard fight against her.
The primaries will take place in February 2024.
