Manhyia Palace Bans All Funerals in Asanteman on August 21 for One-Week Celebration of Late Asantehemaa
The Manhyia Palace has announced a ban on all funerals across Asanteman on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to allow for the one-week celebration of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
he directive follows a formal briefing by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to the Asanteman Council on Monday, August 11, 2025, regarding the passing of the revered Queen Mother, who died peacefully on Thursday, August 7.
According to the Palace, the One-Week Celebration will be held at Bogyawe, Manhyia Palace, between 12 noon and 6:00 p.m. on the designated date.
The temporary ban is intended to ensure that the King, the royal family, and the people of Asanteman can fully participate in the traditional rites and pay their respects to the late Queen Mother without competing ceremonial events.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was widely regarded as a central figure in the Ashanti Kingdom’s cultural and social fabric, serving as a custodian of tradition, a symbol of unity, and a mother figure to her people.
The Manhyia Palace has indicated that further details regarding the final funeral rites will be announced in the coming weeks.
