Ridge Hospital Assault Probe Committee to Present Report Today – Health Ministry
The Ministry of Health has announced that the committee set up to investigate the recent assault on health workers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) will present its report today, Monday, August 25, 2025.
The committee, established by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was tasked to conduct a full-scale inquiry following widespread public outrage after a viral video showed a violent clash between relatives of a patient and hospital staff at the emergency unit.
Speaking on Citi FM, the Head of Communications at the Ministry, Tony Goodman, confirmed that the committee had completed its work after interviewing key witnesses, including the nurse in charge at the time of the altercation.
“By Monday, the report will be given to the Minister,” Goodman stated.
Arrests and Lawsuit
The altercation, reportedly led by Ralph St. Williams, raised serious concerns about the safety of health workers in Ghana. Police have since made several arrests in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, one of the victims, Nurse Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, has filed a GH₵7 million lawsuit against Mr. Williams. In her writ at the High Court, she is demanding GH₵5 million in damages for battery and an additional GH₵2 million for defamation, claiming that he physically assaulted her and later made defamatory comments about her on social media.
Next Steps
The Ministry has assured the public that the findings of the committee will guide measures to ensure accountability and prevent similar assaults on frontline health workers in the future.
