Tensions in Israel escalated on Monday as thousands of protesters staged demonstrations across the country, demanding the government secure the release of hostages held in Gaza and pursue a negotiated end to the ongoing war.
In Tel Aviv, demonstrators blocked the busy Ayalon Highway, paralyzing traffic in what organizers described as a coordinated “day of struggle.” Similar protests were reported in several other cities, reflecting growing public frustration over the government’s handling of the conflict.

The protests came as Israel faced mounting international condemnation following a deadly strike on a Gaza hospital that killed at least 20 people, including five journalists and several medical workers. The victims had rushed to the scene after the first of two strikes in what observers described as a “double-tap” attack.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the deaths, calling the incident a “tragic mishap,” but critics argue that the repeated targeting of civilian areas raises serious concerns under international law.
Images from Tel Aviv showed protesters waving flags, chanting, and blocking main roads, intensifying pressure on the government to act swiftly on both the hostage crisis and efforts to de-escalate the war.
