A tragic accident on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway has left eight people dead and at least five others injured, including a child, after a head-on collision in the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025.
The crash occurred around 3:50 a.m. at Kormantse, involving a Mercedes Benz (AS 4146-25) heading towards Cape Coast and a Hino truck (GW 5958-25) travelling to Accra.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Mankessim Fire Station were dispatched to the scene, where they extricated two victims believed to have died instantly.
The injured, including the truck driver, were rushed to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment.
Authorities, with assistance from other stakeholders, later cleared the wreckage and reopened the road to traffic.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, which has added to the rising toll of road fatalities on Ghana’s highways.
