The Ghana Police Service has reportedly arrested Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Details surrounding his arrest remain unclear, but it follows a security raid on the residence of former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, on Sunday, where officers were allegedly searching for Abronye. The operation has already sparked public criticism.
The arrest also comes just days after Abronye formally petitioned eight foreign embassies—including those of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, and Côte d’Ivoire—seeking political asylum.
In his petition, the outspoken NPP figure claimed he faced political intimidation, threats to his life, and abuse of state security powers under the current government. He argued that these conditions endangered him and his family, warranting international protection.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on his arrest.
