Madina, Accra – September 12, 2025 — The La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly (LaNMA) has carried out a major demolition exercise at Madina Redco Junction, clearing unauthorised structures as part of its decongestion and sanitation campaign.
The operation, led by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Ibrahim Faila Fuseini, was supported by the Assembly’s task force, police officers, and military personnel. Containers, kiosks, and other makeshift structures erected on unauthorised sites were torn down to ease movement, reduce congestion, and restore order in the busy area.
Affected Traders Express Shock
Some of those affected told Adom News they were caught off guard and had not prepared for the demolition. They expressed frustration at losing their investments overnight, with many appealing for alternative trading spaces.
Redco Declared a Security Zone
After the exercise, Mr. Fuseini declared Redco Junction a security zone, warning that no new unauthorised structures will be tolerated in the area.
“This operation is part of our commitment to sustain order and cleanliness. We will not allow structures to spring up again in this location,” the MCE stressed.
Broader Decongestion Agenda
The demolition forms part of a wider strategy by LaNMA to tackle indiscriminate siting of structures, improve sanitation, and ensure public safety across the municipality. Officials have indicated that similar exercises will be extended to other hotspots.
