Arsenal produced a commanding performance to defeat Nottingham Forest, handing manager Ange Postecoglou a loss in his first match in charge of the club.
Martin Zubimendi stole the spotlight, scoring his first goals for Arsenal as the Gunners dominated a Forest side that showed glimpses of promise but lacked the cutting edge to challenge Mikel Arteta’s team.
Arsenal Take Control
Former Tottenham boss Postecoglou had previously failed to overcome Arteta in four encounters, recording three defeats and one draw. That record remained intact as Arsenal took control from the outset.
Noni Madueke, starting on the right in place of the injured Bukayo Saka, was particularly impressive. He repeatedly beat Morato in one-on-one situations, and his inswinging corners caused constant problems for Forest’s defense.
Zubimendi Opens Arsenal’s Account
Arsenal’s first goal arrived from one of Madueke’s dangerous corners. Chris Wood headed the ball to the edge of the box, where Zubimendi unleashed a powerful volley that deflected slightly off Murillo before beating goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Forest’s best opportunity came from Morgan Gibbs-White, who fired wide from inside the penalty area following a counter-attack, leaving his side still trailing.

Arsenal Double the Lead
Just a minute into the second half, Arsenal doubled their advantage. Eberechi Eze, making his first start for the club, supplied a perfect pass for Viktor Gyokeres, who tapped in from close range.
Zubimendi completed his brace later in the match, heading home a precise cross from substitute Leandro Trossard, further cementing Arsenal’s dominance.
Strong Display Despite Injuries
Arteta will be buoyed by the performance, particularly given the number of key absentees. Captain Martin Ødegaard was forced off in the first half with what appeared to be a shoulder injury, yet the squad maintained composure and control throughout the game.
The victory reinforces Arsenal’s strong start to the season and highlights the depth and versatility of Arteta’s squad, with new signings like Zubimendi and Eze making an immediate impact.
