A tragic road accident on the Koforidua–Nyamekrom road in the Eastern Region has claimed one life and left four others injured on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
The collision occurred near the Jehovah’s Witness Church at Nyamekrom and involved an Opel Astra B taxi (registration number GS 4492-Z) and a Honda Civic (registration number GR 5529-22).
According to eyewitness accounts, including the Assemblyman for the Nyamekrom Electoral Area, Enoch Boahene, who narrowly escaped the crash while on his motorcycle, the taxi driver was speeding and attempted a wrongful overtaking. This reckless maneuver led to a head-on collision with the oncoming Honda Civic.
Emergency services rushed the victims to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving treatment at both the Eastern Regional Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua.
Police have since commenced investigations into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
The latest accident adds to growing concerns about reckless driving and road safety along the Koforidua–Nyamekrom stretch, which has recorded multiple crashes in recent months.
