Accra, Ghana – The Accra Sports Stadium has been officially designated as the exclusive venue for Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, to host their upcoming international matches, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced.
According to the GFA’s Director of Communications, Henry Asante Twum, the decision follows a directive from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), approving only the Accra Sports Stadium for Black Stars fixtures.
This development comes in the wake of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi being disqualified due to its inability to meet required international standards. The Kumasi-based venue had previously served as the preferred home ground for the Black Stars in major international competitions.
Speaking to 3Sports, Asante Twum confirmed that Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for September and October will now be held in Accra.
“At the moment, the only approved venue for Black Stars matches is the Accra Sports Stadium. That will host Black Stars games in September and October,” he stated.
Ghana will face Mali and Comoros in the next round of qualifiers as the team intensifies its campaign for a fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars recently returned to the Accra Sports Stadium in March for a Matchday 5 qualifier, during which they delivered an emphatic victory over Chad — a result that bolstered their standing in the qualifiers.
Currently, after six rounds of matches, Ghana tops Group I with 15 points, maintaining a three-point lead over Comoros, who occupy second place.
The shift to Accra is expected to draw larger crowds and provide a morale boost for the team as they enter a critical phase of qualification.
The GFA has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all logistical and infrastructural requirements are met to maintain Accra Sports Stadium’s certification as an international-standard venue.
