Kumasi, Ghana – A gas cylinder explosion at Adum in Kumasi has left four people in critical condition and sparked widespread panic in the early hours of Wednesday.
The blast occurred in a building near Sagoe Lane, with eyewitnesses reporting a thunderous sound that drew dozens of residents to the scene.
“I heard a loud boom and rushed outside, only to see people screaming and running for safety,” one resident recounted.
According to witnesses, some occupants of the building leapt from windows in a desperate bid to escape the flames, sustaining fractured legs and other injuries in the process.
One of the victims reportedly suffered multiple injuries when the cylinder exploded inside her room.
All four critically injured individuals were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly moved to the scene, cordoning off the area as investigations into the cause of the explosion begin.
The incident has left nearby residents in fear, with many expressing concern about the safety of gas usage in residential areas.
