James Gyakye Quayson will not be imprisoned if you vote for him – Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, a former president and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, has guaranteed party supporters in Assin North Constituency that James Gyakye Quayson, the party’s candidate for parliament in the next by-election, won’t be imprisoned if elected.
The former president’s remarks were made in a video that Oyerepa TV, based in Kumasi, posted.
Speaking to a group of Assin North voters, the former president stressed that Gyakye Quayson had provided the Electoral Commission (EC) with documentation that appeared to indicate he had renounced his Canadian citizenship. And after checking the paperwork, the EC gave him the go-ahead to take part in the election.
Additionally, he refuted President Nana Addo’s claims that the party’s parliamentary candidate will be imprisoned due to the pending criminal prosecution.

“He provided the Electoral Commission (EC) with the paperwork that appeared to indicate he had renounced his Canadian citizenship, and they cleared him to run for office. Therefore, the EC gave him permission to contest.
By doing this, the president is prevented from misleading the Assin North electorate into believing that the cases of Sakande and Gyakye Quayson are identical. Because Sakande lied and concealed his passport, he was sent to prison. The passport was not kept secret by Gyakye Quayson. The Canadian government approved his renunciation of citizenship prior to your vote for him here in Assin North; what then is his crime? the former president questioned.
According to John Mahama, neither the court nor the NPP will have any influence over the NDC’s choice of candidate.
In light of the fact that he would be chosen to represent the area in parliament, he asked the public to dismiss such claims and to believe that Gyakye Quayson would continue to be free.
So I’m here in your presence to tell you that all of the statements that indicate Gyakye Quayson will go to jail are false. He won’t be sent to jail today or tomorrow, he declared.
Mahama added that Gyakye Quayson is clean and that he is confident in both his eligibility and the NDC’s chances of winning the by-election.
All those who claim Gyakye Quayson will go to prison will take the initiative there as long as we follow God. Everyone who has excavated a pit for Gyakye Quayson will descend into it. He is thus clean.
“He wanted to stand again for that reason, and the EC once more accepted and gave him approval. similar to how they permitted him to run in 2020. They have agreed that he will run again in this by-election because they know he is honest, he emphasized.
Gyakye Quayson, running for the NDC, will face Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) in the eagerly awaited by-election in Assin North, set for June 27, 2023.
The leaders of all the parties have stepped up their campaigns and rallies as the by-election nears in an effort to increase support for their respective candidates.
