The Kasoa-Ofaakor District Magistrate Court has sentenced three individuals to a combined 20 months in prison for their involvement in examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The convicts are:
- Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS and invigilator,
- Kwame Oteng Nkansah, a Level 100 student at Accra Technical University, and
- Amedeka James, a Level 100 student at the University of Ghana.
Armah was caught with leaked answers to the Social Studies Paper 1 on his phone, which he was dictating to candidates. He was fined 80 penalty units in addition to an eight-month jail term.
Nkansah was convicted of impersonating a candidate, Quayson Francis Atta of Ghana College SHS. He received a six-month sentence and an 80 penalty unit fine.
James also received a six-month jail term and an 80 penalty unit fine after impersonating his twin brother, Amedeka Justice, during the exam.
During a monitoring visit, the Chief Executive of the Awutu Senya East Municipality, Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, identified lapses in seating arrangements and vowed to introduce stricter measures to curb malpractice.
The Municipal Education Director, Frank-Etrue Hayford, also condemned the misconduct, stressing his office’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the WASSCE.
