Kwabena Agyepong First to File Nomination in NPP Flagbearer Race
Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, has become the first aspirant to officially file his nomination forms in the party’s flagbearer race ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Agyepong, who was accompanied by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, submitted his forms at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
The NPP opened nominations for its presidential candidate slot on July 29, 2025, and the window is set to close on August 28, 2025. The party has already scheduled January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer to lead the party into the 2028 polls.
Expanded Voter Register for Primaries
In a related development, the NPP has announced an expansion of its voter register for the primaries.
A circular issued by the party’s headquarters, signed by Mr. William Yamoah, Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, confirmed that additional categories of officials and dignitaries will now be eligible to vote.
The update is in accordance with Article 13(1)(11) of the NPP Constitution and a resolution passed at the party’s National Annual Delegates Conference held on July 19, 2025.
The expansion is expected to broaden participation in what is likely to be a highly competitive flagbearer contest.
