Lacklustre PSG Edge Spurs on Penalties to Clinch First-Ever UEFA Super Cup
Paris Saint-Germain produced a stirring late fightback to overturn a two-goal deficit and beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties, securing their maiden UEFA Super Cup title and their fifth trophy of 2025.
Tottenham, seeking to become just the second UEFA Europa League holders to lift the Super Cup since 2012, began brightly but failed to capitalise on early opportunities. Pedro Porro fired wide in the opening minute, while PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia dragged an effort off target after a slick passing exchange.
Midway through the first half, Richarlison’s industrious play set up Mohamed Kudus, whose shot was heroically blocked by Marquinhos. Spurs struck seven minutes before the break, when Cristian Romero nodded Guglielmo Vicario’s free-kick into the danger area. João Palhinha’s effort was saved by Lucas Chevalier, but Micky van de Ven reacted quickest to stab home the rebound. Kudus almost doubled the lead moments later, his diving header glancing off the post.

Two minutes after the restart, Romero made it 2–0, heading in another free-kick at the back post, with Chevalier unable to keep it out. Spurs continued to press, with Porro and Kevin Danso both going close.
PSG finally threatened with 25 minutes remaining when Désiré Doué’s strike tested Vicario. Fabián Ruiz set up Bradley Barcola to score soon after, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The breakthrough came five minutes from time, as Lee Kang-in rifled a precise effort into the bottom corner to halve the deficit.
The equaliser arrived deep into stoppage time, Ousmane Dembélé’s cross met by Gonçalo Ramos’ clinical header to force penalties.

Vitinha’s miss gave Spurs the early advantage, but Van de Ven was denied by Chevalier, levelling the shootout. Mathys Tel then faltered, allowing Nuno Mendes to bury the decisive spot-kick and seal PSG’s historic triumph — making them the first French side to lift the UEFA Super Cup.
