The Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF) is a legally recognized non-profit organization with the mission to recognize and encourage accomplishments in sustainable development.

The idea is that by recognizing and showcasing the accomplishments of people and corporate institutions, as well as their influence on society, it will motivate them and encourage others to follow suit.

Speaking to GHOne News, the President of the Foundation vowed that the Millennium Excellence Foundation would assist the 25th Anniversary celebration of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s ascent on the Asanteman Golden throne to the fullest extent possible.

A thousand (1000) practice books were also given by the foundation to aid the educational initiatives of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation.

“We are gathered here to honor the patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation by celebrating the fourth Akwasidae of the year with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the advisory board, and the board of governance. As you may be aware, the Millennium Excellence Foundation follows a tradition whereby the board of advisory and governance is replaced every four to five years. Today, we are here to introduce the incoming board to His Royal Majesty Osei Tutu II and to let him know that we are here to support the celebration of his 25th anniversary of being seated on the Golden Throne.

“You know, ever since the Foundation was founded some 35 years ago, our purpose has been to honor people who are excelling in their chosen industries by advancing humanity. In order to recognize deserving people, as we did for President John Mahama, Nana Akufo Addo, and former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan among others, we will work with Manhyia Palace as Otumfuo gets ready for his anniversary celebration. We’ll work with the Otumfuo Foundation to launch various educational initiatives that will advance socioeconomic development in Asanteman and throughout Ghana.

Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi, the chief executive of the EIB-Network, also praised Otumfuo and the Asanteman traditional council for upholding the Asante culture by making Mahyia Palace a major tourist attraction.

“I can’t wait to see the exquisite Asante Culture on display at Manhyia Palace and anywhere else Otumfuo goes. The Asante and Akan traditions are being upheld to a significant part by Otumfuo, who is also promoting tourism in Ghana. The fact that Manhyia Palace is one of Ghana’s top tourist destinations is not surprising to me. As part of our efforts to entice foreign investment into the nation, the Millennium Excellence Foundation members will promote tourism.

The Akan Annual calendar is divided into nine months which lasts approximately six weeks but varies between 40 and 42 days in a period.

The celebration of this period is called the Adae festival.

The Adae Festival has two celebration days: the Akwasidae Festival which is celebrated on the final Sunday of the period and the Awokudae festival which falls on Wednesday within the period.
