Police Arrest 10 Suspected Armed Robbers
Accra, Ghana – The Ghana Police Service has arrested 10 suspected armed robbers in a coordinated operation spanning the Ashanti, Central, and Sunyani regions.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno announced that the suspects had been on the radar of law enforcement for months, allegedly targeting rural banks and terrorising communities.
Among those arrested are Akwasi Adjie, David Obuobi, and Samuel Akwasi Djdan. Police, however, say another key suspect, Kwabena Owusu Ansah, remains at large and is being pursued.
Describing the arrests as a “major breakthrough,” the IGP said the operation underscored the Service’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and strengthening public safety.
The suspects were paraded at the Police Headquarters in Accra before being transferred in a Black Maria to detention facilities for further investigations.
Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, revealed that 12 firearms—including weapons previously stolen from slain officers—were retrieved during the raids. Police also recovered large sums of money believed to be proceeds from the gang’s operations.
All 10 suspects are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The Police Service has urged the public to volunteer information on criminal activities to aid ongoing efforts to clamp down on armed robbery and other violent crimes.
