The Duayaw Nkwanta community in the Ahafo Region has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of 40-year-old Police Sergeant Korankye Brown, who is believed to have taken his own life while on duty.
The incident reportedly occurred at the charge office of the Duayaw Nkwanta Police Station, where Sergeant Brown is said to have used his service weapon to end his life. Preliminary accounts indicate he was alone at the time.
Eyewitnesses suggest the officer allegedly placed the weapon beneath his chin before pulling the trigger, dying instantly. His body has since been conveyed to the Saint John of God Hospital for preservation and further examination.
The development has left residents and colleagues in shock, as many described Sergeant Brown as a calm, dedicated officer who had served the Duayaw Nkwanta area faithfully for years.
Community members revealed that the late officer married a nurse three years ago, and the couple share a child.
Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, though investigations have begun to establish the circumstances that may have led to his tragic decision.
