President Mahama Demands Accountability on Ofankor-Nsawam Highway Works
President John Dramani Mahama has directed a full-scale investigation into the use of funds allocated for the Ofankor-Nsawam Highway project, questioning why huge sums spent under the previous Akufo-Addo administration did not result in the contractor being fully paid.
The $346.5 million project, awarded to Maripoma Enterprise Limited, has suffered repeated delays largely due to funding shortfalls. Despite the reported expenditure, the contractor is still owed significant arrears.

To revive the stalled works, the Mahama administration has released an additional GH¢809 million.
Mahama Raises Accountability Questions
Speaking during an inspection tour of the site, President Mahama expressed concern over what he described as financial mismanagement.
“Why has the money that was borrowed for this project been spent, and yet the contractor has not been fully paid?” he asked.
He tasked the contractor to ensure value for money and deliver the project within schedule, stressing that his government would not tolerate wasteful spending.
75% Complete, New Deadline Set
Currently, the Ofankor-Nsawam Highway is about 75 percent complete and is now expected to be finalized by June 2026. The prolonged delays have worsened congestion on the busy Accra-Nsawam corridor, disrupting businesses and hampering the movement of goods and commuters.

Commitment Under “Big Push” Agenda
President Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing the project under the “Big Push” infrastructure agenda, which prioritizes roads, bridges, and transport networks as key drivers of economic growth.
