Ada – September 11, 2025 — The Ada District Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly attempting to smuggle 248 bags of cocoa beans, in a case that underscores growing concerns about illegal cocoa trade along Ghana’s borders.
The suspects — Solomon Tetteh, 28, Nicholas Tetteh, 27, and Stephen Okronipa, 36 — were apprehended on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, after police intercepted two tipper trucks near Ada Senior High School.
Trucks Impounded, Beans Seized
According to police, the cocoa beans were concealed in jute and nylon sacks inside a green SHACMAN truck (GN 6953-22) and an orange CNHTC truck (GR 9877-12). Both vehicles have since been impounded.
The seized cocoa beans have been handed over to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in Tema for safekeeping, while the suspects remain in custody to assist with investigations.
Police Caution Against Smuggling
Police have issued a strong warning to transport operators and traders against engaging in cocoa smuggling, stressing that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
Authorities say the crackdown on smuggling is part of a broader effort to protect Ghana’s cocoa sector, which contributes significantly to the national economy but faces rising threats from cross-border trafficking.
