You Can’t Arrest Charles Bissue – Court Tells OSP

A human rights court in Accra has issued a ruling prohibiting the Special Prosecutor’s office from detaining Charles Bissue.
The court, presided over by Justice Nicholas MC Abodakpi, issued the ruling in response to a motion submitted by the attorneys for the former Inter Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) Secretary.
The 10-day temporary injunction will be in effect.
According to the judgment, the judge prohibited the OSP from requesting additional arrest warrants while the substantive matter was being resolved and from distributing notices claiming the applicant was wanted.

On June 22, 2023, the case hearing will proceed.
The OSP is looking into allegations of corruption and related actions involving unlawful mining against Mr. Bissue and other IMCIM participants.
After Mr. Bissue failed to show up for an interview with the OSP last Tuesday, the OSP issued a notice stating that he was sought.
Mr. Bissue is contesting the OSP’s investigations on the grounds that the Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department had previously cleared him in relation to the same alleged case of corruption.
