‘Your doom is coming, Lydia Seyram,’ says John Dumelo in response to the result of the Assin North by-election.

Following the results of the Assin North by-election, John Dumelo said, “Lydia Seyram your downfall is next.”

Actor and politician from Ghana, John Dumelo, has warned Lydia Alhassan Seyram, a candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the 2020 elections, to get ready for defeat in the 2024 elections.

The statement was sent on June 27, 2023, via Twitter. Dumelo had just celebrated the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) victory in the Assin North by-election, in which Charles Opoku, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), lost to James Gyakye Quayson.

John Dumelo, who campaigned for the NDC ticket for the first time in the previous election and ran for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat, tweeted, “Lydia Seyram Alhassan, your downfall is next!”

Both the NPP and the NDC have been active in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Seyram won the 2020 elections in a closely contested campaign between Dumelo and Lydia Alhassan.

Dumelo’s warning, though, signals that he is still committed to running for the seat in the forthcoming elections.

A huge victory for the opposition party was achieved when the NDC candidate for Assin North defeated the NPP candidate.

According to the announcement made by the Electoral Commission, James Gyakye Quayson received a total of 17,245 votes, or 57.56% of the total votes cast. Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who was his closest rival, received 12,630 votes, or 42.15 percent of the vote. 87 votes, or 0.29% of the total, went to Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).

In Assin North, a by-election was held to fill the parliamentary seat that became vacant after a legal dispute regarding Quayson’s eligibility to occupy office due to dual citizenship issues.
